Expand Your Nissan NV200 Cargo Capacity in 2 Easy Mods

NV200 is a favorite cargo van in the trades for a good reason. For contracting, logistics and delivery, even event management, it's exceptionally versatile, as only a Nissan commercial vehicle can be. Better yet, it's relatively inexpensive, both to maintain and to upgrade.

Take the 2021 Nissan NV200, for instance: it's got a whopping 122.7 cubic feet of space in the rear. The van can definitely haul, too -- up to around 1,400 pounds. That's plenty of capacity for customizing. Here's two mods you can make that can be a big help day-to-day, whichever model year that you drive, and whatever trim, S, SV, or Taxi, that you drive.

1. Cargo Accessories

Transporting tools between jobs, just lugging equipment home after a long day of them -- you'll need a way to organize things. More than that, you'll need a way to make the most of the storage space your NV200 has. That's where a cargo accessory or two can come in handy.

Consider cargo mats, a cargo tray, some cargo liners, or even a cargo net. One can contain what you're transporting, sure, but also make accessing it a lot easier, and all while protecting the cargo area from damage. Upgrade to, say, a full cargo management system, and you can take full advantage of perks like cargo tie-downs and partitions for the purpose.

Of course, most cargo accessories have plenty of other features, too: raised edges to better contain and separate things, non-slip surfaces to better grip floors (and cargo), water-resistance/waterproofing, adjustable dividers, you name it.

2. A Roof Rack or Cargo Box

Even with that massive, almost-123-cubic-foot interior cargo capacity, why not try to make more space everywhere else, too? The best way to do that: install a roof rail system.

It'll add room by letting you transport things on top of the van, sure. However, it'll also be a better means than a bare roof and bungee cords: it'll take on but, more importantly, also distribute cargo weight better and more evenly, being comprised of durable metals such as steel or aluminum, and some, including crossbars. You'll even be able to take advantage of anchor points for tying things down.

The best part: many roof racks can even double as kayak racks or bike racks. In other words, one's great to have if you want to use your NV200 apart from work -- say, for outdoor recreation on the weekends. Putting one together: as easy as combining some modular towers and feet.
