The Nissan Frontier name belongs to a line of compact and eventually mid-size pickup trucks that debuted in 1998, succeeding the Nissan D21 ("Hardbody"), and that's still available today. Initially, base, SE, and XE trims were offered, as was a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine. A 3.3-liter V6 joined the latter in 1999, followed by an SC trim in 2001 and an SVE trim in 2002. For 2005, LE and NISMO Off-Road trims became available, as did 2.5-liter L4 and 4.0-liter V6 engines.
2007 standard features included four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes and steel wheels, while options that year ranged from a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission to four-wheel drive, a Utili-track bed channel system, spray-on bedliner, skid plates, Bilstein performance shocks, and more.
The model is once more all-new for 2022, and it comes in trims like PRO-X, PRO-4X, and SV. It also incorporates a 3.8-liter V6 mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Standard features range from 12-volt outlets and hill-start to Easy Fill Tire Alert and driver aids galore. Options include two 400-watt outlets, an Around-View monitor, Nissan Safety Shield 360, and several packages -- among them, Tech, Convenience, and Premium.
