How Much Does it Cost to Replace Nissan Brake Rotors on Average?

The brake rotors in your Nissan vehicle go bad, replacing them gets expensive, fast. That is, the average cost -- it can run $300 just to start with. Oftentimes, it's even higher.

Drive a car like Nissan Sentra, for instance, and sure, you might stay closer to $260 on average. If you drive a truck like Nissan TITAN XD, you might be looking at $400 or more.

Luckily, there's a great way to avoid that repair bill: help the rotors last as long as they can -- inspect them regularly, sure, but also, keep them clean -- of dirt and grime kicked up from the road, and of dust from friction with the brake pads. Do that, and you'll reduce not only overall wear and tear but also the chance of rust.

Two Easy Ways to Clean a Nissan Brake Rotor DIY

All you'll need for the job:

  • Safety gear: work gloves and goggles
  • Two cloths: one wet and one dry
  • Mild soap and water (or white vinegar)
  • A spray bottle
  • A bucket
  • A lift or jack
  • Tools for removing wheels
  • Tools for taking apart brake calipers
  • Here's what to do in both cases.

    Option 1: Soap and Water

  • Mix the soap and water in the bucket -- nothing too concentrated -- and fill the spray bottle with soapy water.
  • Hoist your Nissan up on the lift or jack; take the wheels off, and coat the rotors with the solution. Coat the brake calipers while you're at it.
  • Wipe off the rotors with the wet cloth; then, wipe off any excess with the dry cloth.
  • Replace your vehicle's wheels and lower it.
  • Option 2: Vinegar

  • Lift your Nissan up on a hoist, remove the wheels, and take the calipers and rotors apart.
  • Fill up the bucket with vinegar and soak both the calipers and rotors in it for an hour or so (the mix might bubble -- this is normal).
  • Take the parts out of the vinegar and wipe all of them off with the dry cloth.
  • Replace the parts, replace your vehicle's wheels, and lower it.
  • Not sure how to install brake rotors, let alone whether you need new ones or only a little maintenance? No problem; the pros can help.
